Rafer Guzman has been the film critic for Newsday since 2008. He is the regular film critic for PRIâs nationally syndicated morning show âThe Takeaway,â the co-host of the WNYC podcast âMovie Dateâ and an occasional guest on the public radio show âSoundcheck.â He was a staff writer at The Wall Street Journal for four years before joining Newsday as a rock critic in 2002. His freelance work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Blender, The San Francisco Bay Guardian, The East Bay Express and the late, great Option magazine. He has a bachelorâs degree in English from UC Berkeley and graduated with honors from Columbia Universityâs School of Journalism. He lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn, with his wife and two children.
